Importance of Visual Arts
Visual arts describes a broad category that describes artistic disciplines. Drawing, painting, sculpturing, printmaking, design, crafts, photography, video, film making and architecture are all types of visual arts. Let’s break these down a bit as one understands their importance.
Fine arts are defined as a creative art which are appreciated for their imaginative, aesthetic, or intellectual content. While many associate music as a fine art, visual arts such as drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, graphic art, book illustration, calligraphy and architecture fall under this category.
Contemporary art is art of today that is produced by artists who are living in the twenty-first century and reflects today’s society and issues relevant to ourselves and the world around us. Types of contemporary arts include collage, mixed-media, conceptual art, installation, happenings, performance art, photography, video art and animation. Computer graphics, ice/snow sculpture and graffiti art are also included in contemporary arts.
Decorative Arts & Crafts
Decorative arts and crafts are the design and manufacture of beautiful objects that are also functional. Interior design, ceramics, studio pottery, mosaic art, mobiles, tapestry and glass art are included in this category.
Other Visual Art Forms
Since visual arts can’t be defined to a single category, the wider definition includes graphic design, fashion design, body art that includes face painting and body painting.
Each of these types of art forms has their importance in society. If you take any of them out of it, the world is a different and more boring place. Art is subjective and can be a release for those who enjoy it. Art is everywhere and is what makes the world beautiful! It’s important we continue arts education so our children can learn to express themselves in ways they love!
